If you’ve built a successful web design business, WordPress agency, or freelance practice, you’ve probably spent years developing relationships with clients who trust you. When you’re ready to retire, reduce your workload, pursue something new, or simply get some of your time back, walking away isn’t easy.
PixelPeople is interested in acquiring established web design businesses and client portfolios, particularly those built around WordPress, website maintenance, hosting, support, and long-term client relationships.
We’re a small, established WordPress agency — not an investment firm or business broker. Our goal is to find opportunities where there’s a good fit for the seller, for PixelPeople, and especially for the clients making the transition.
PixelPeople has deliberately remained a small agency. Our clients work directly with experienced people who know their websites and their businesses. We’d want your clients to receive the same personal attention they’ve come to expect from you.
We’ve been building, maintaining, hosting, troubleshooting, and extending WordPress websites for years. We’re comfortable taking responsibility for everything from straightforward business websites to WooCommerce stores, custom functionality, integrations, and ongoing development.
A transition shouldn’t simply preserve what your clients already have. PixelPeople can provide ongoing design and development, custom programming, ecommerce, website strategy, SEO support, hosting, maintenance, and technical consulting as their needs evolve.
Every business is different. Depending on your goals and the nature of your client relationships, an acquisition could include an upfront payment, ongoing payments based on retained revenue, a gradual transition, or another structure that works for both sides.
We’ve been through an agency acquisition ourselves, structured as an upfront payment plus two years of compensation based on retained client revenue. It worked well for both parties and still shapes how we approach acquisitions today. Whether you want a clean exit or would rather stay involved for a while and introduce us gradually, we’ll figure that out together.
No. We’re interested in established businesses of different sizes, including solo web designers and small agencies. The quality and longevity of your client relationships and the nature of your recurring revenue matter more to us than having a large staff.
Not necessarily, although WordPress is our primary platform and will generally make a transition easier. If you have a mixed client portfolio, we’re happy to discuss it.
Website maintenance, hosting, support agreements and other ongoing client relationships are particularly attractive. We may also consider businesses with a healthy combination of recurring and project revenue.
Protecting client relationships is one of the most important parts of any acquisition. We’ll develop the transition plan with you rather than simply announcing a change. Our goal is for clients to understand who PixelPeople is, why the transition is happening, and how they’ll benefit from continued support.
That depends on what you want and what the business needs. Some transitions may benefit from a period of seller involvement; others may allow for a relatively quick exit. We’ll discuss that with you to determine the best path forward.
There isn’t a universal formula. Recurring revenue, profitability, client retention, concentration of revenue among clients, workload, contracts, technical environment, and the owner’s role in maintaining client relationships can all affect value.
We’ll talk through those factors openly before proposing a transaction.
Absolutely. In many ways, that’s the ideal time to start talking. A gradual succession plan can provide more options than waiting until you need to exit quickly.
If you’ve spent years building a web design business, you deserve more than simply shutting it down — and your clients deserve a thoughtful transition to a dedicated team that will take care of them.
Whether you’re actively looking to sell your web design business, considering retirement, feeling burned out, or simply wondering what your options might be, We’d be happy to talk.
