Google Mobile Friendly Test

If Your Website Is In The Majority, You’re Losing Mobile Visitors

You know the importance of responsive design and the mobile web. You’re never far from your smartphone, and more often than not, you’re using it to search the web–whether you’re at home or on the go. You’re in the majority of users, trending to the future: 2015 was the first year that Google reported that more web searches were conducted on mobile devices than on desktop computers. And that trend will continue.

Unfortunately, at that time Google also reported that more than 80% of the web was not responsive yet, including about 40% of Fortune 500 companies. So odds are that your website is also in the majority–but this majority is stuck in the past, providing poor experiences for their mobile users, and losing potential customers.

Beyond that, Google made changes to its search algorithms last year, and websites that are not mobile-friendly are being penalized in its organic search results. That’s right–if your site isn’t responsive, you’re already slipping in the ranks, and will be increasingly harder to find. That will cost you even more visitors.

There’s a simple way to see if your site is up-to-snuff. Just visit Google’s Mobile Friendly Test and enter your URL. In just about a minute, you’ll know whether you pass their mobile requirements, or whether you still have some work to do. It’s a minute well-spent, and your future customers will thank you for it.
